the automobile has done more to define the american culture than just about anything...it represents the ultimate freedom...to just get up and go..."see the usa in your chevrolet" ranks right up there with the declaration of independence...if the covered wagon was the symbol of the nineteenth century, the automobile is surely the symbol of the 20th...from the car came the highway system we take for granted, the fast food that is served up at its curbs, the gas and service stations that sprang up at every corner, the clean restroom, road maps, disneyland, you name it...the family vacation followed commercial commerce...and every cave, hole in the ground, cactus, rock formation, animal, teepee, tree was fair game for an admission price...sleep in a teepee, here it is, wall drugs, meramec caverns, mail pouch tobacco were all roadside enticements to lure the passing tourist into departing with some of their vacation cash...with kids in tow, there was a constant din of "are we there yet," or "we gotta stop and see that"...dad's intention was to put the pedal to the metal and not stop until the final destination...bladders, appetites, cramped legs, flat tires, overheated radiators were all conspiring to thwart his resolve...here you will find the cars from that recent past...a past that the children of the current generation know little if nothing about...it is the past of our parents and their parents...but there is still something about those old cars...they were as unique as the times they existed and the people that challenged them to take them to the ends of the earth and back...
