Ellen Alt, New York City Member Since September 2017 Artist Statement Hi. My primary medium is mixed media, art created from a wide variety of materials. Many of my works are about language and writing. I love to transmit my strong connection to Jewish tradition through the creation of unique ketubot, handwritten Jewish marital contracts. I have exhibited my artwork extensively in the U.S, Israel, Germany, Russia, China and England. One of my pieces was presented to Hillary Clinton in Jerusalem during the signing of peace treaty between Israel and Jordan and is in the collection in the White House. I also organize community sculpture and mural projects which focus on social change. Born in Buffalo, I am on the faculty in the Education Department at Brandeis University, the Artist-in-Residence at the Park Avenue Synagogue and the art coordinator at the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan. I hold an MA in studio art from New York University and a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and live in New York City with my husband, Carlos Narvaez, a photographer from Peru. www.ellenaltjudaic.com, www.ellenalt.com, www.ellenaltcommunity.com
