Artist Statement The call of a soaring hawk, wind ruffling through the golden aspen leaves, sunlit majestic mountain peaks, and animals in their natural habitat are some of the wonders that have kept Don passionate about creating art for over 40 years.
After retiring from his orthodontic practice, Don has concentrated on his art career. He has attended classes at Pacific Northwest College of Art, Mt Hood Community College, and regional workshops held by the Colored Pencil Society to refine his techniques. He uses mixed media including colored pencils, watercolor, wax crayons, and acrylics to achieve vivid colors, realistic textures, and fine detail in his paintings.
He has shown his art in many juried art shows including The Colored Pencil Society for America International Show and Explore This! Show, Lake Oswego Festival of Arts, Audobon Wild Arts Festival, Clackamas County Arts in Public Spaces, Portland Open Studios, Bend Arts Festival, and several galleries in Oregon.
