Artist Statement Stevi T(Stephania) is a pioneering painter determined to create highly valuable artwork. She is a Colorado native (1982) and master educator (7th grade Eastern World History). She was influenced in her early career living in the Caribbean where she stepped into a self-taught artist role as encouraged by family, friends and teachers to nurture her talent. The artist resides and paints in Denver, CO and is Owner of SteviT Studios Co, an enterprise focused on creating functional and beautiful artistic products.
Her paintings on canvas and paper depict her sensitivity to social, political and economic experiences and interests. Subjects include the legend of Neg Marron-Haiti & Ancient Africa, body awareness, nuances of class, animals, children, florals, abstracts, currency, portraits and landscapes.
Her palette is rooted in bold cool colors or warm hues where she hopes to communicate specific visual stimulations and emotional connections. Stevi T hopes her work evokes key questions in your heart and mind. Health and harmony are also often underlying concepts in her work.
Stevi’s work shows locally and internationally in an effort to encourage community as well as life affirming and thought provoking imagery.
As a fan of history, Stevi is currently working on drawings and paintings highlighting the link between femininity, it’s power and the historical legacy of violence in America and beyond.
