Description Detail of the decorated front cover of the book 'Aylwin' by the English critic and poet Theodore Watts-Dunton. The design is a beautiful gilt Art Nouveau medallion against an umber field. This is the 1899 American edition published by Dodd, Mead and Co. [public domain]. 'Aylwin' was a very popular novel of its time. According to Wikipedia, its themes are 'the romantic and passionate associations of Romany [gypsy] life,' and 'imaginative glamour and mysticism' are its prominent characteristics.
