Sharon majored in fine art and education at Central Washington University and holds a master’s degree in education from that university. Now retired, Sharon taught elementary school art and other subjects for several years. She now concentrates on painting original watercolors.

Sharon was a member of the NW Watercolor Society and her watercolors have won awards in National and local competitions. Sharon’s paintings hang in public buildings in Washington State, and in Alaska.

“Watercolor is a means for me to celebrate nature. Trees, flowers, and water are a few elements that capture my imagination. I look for unique patterns within small areas of nature and try to emphasize them. The painting generally begins with several photographs taken in early morning sunlight. I am most successful when I have sunlight to help me define shapes, shadows and translucent color.

For me, watercolor is all about light and translucent color, accented with rich, deep shadows. The intent is to achieve a glow with watercolor by using complementary colors, glazing (layering one color over another), and sharp value contrasts.”
