Description 30-40 acrylic on canvas. This painting depicts a street scene in Coronado California, kitty-corner to the Hotel Del Coronado. The light is streaming though the leaves of the trees, casting shadows on the buildings. This painting is one of The Spirited Woman series. Each painting is based on a stanza of a poem that I wrote titled The Spirited Woman. In the painting, my wife Belle is walking up the street while running the important errands of the day. In this painting I wanted to explore the nature of shadows and how they are depicted with paint.
Todd Martin, San Diego Member Since October 2014 Artist Statement I am a physician and self taught artist who began painting while in medical school in 1990. Since then I have steadily worked on my craft, trying to improve my ability to fulfill the vision that is in my mind. My goal has always been to create paintings that express joy, happiness, and a love of life. For the past 15 years, my gallery has been my medical office exam rooms. It has brought me great joy and satisfaction to see the reactions of my patients to my paintings over the years. In the early days, it was "that's not bad," but more recently the comments are more along the lines of how happy it makes them feel, and how much would it cost to buy. Given the limited time I have to paint, I never considered selling my paintings because each one is like one of my babies. The opportunity to offer prints of my work is truly exciting for me. I hope you enjoy what I have to share.
