Artist Statement Born in New York City, RUTH DEVORAH is an International Singer and Artist.
For the past twenty-five years, I have created works of art using various styles and techniques on paper, canvas, burlap, muslin and linen. This interest led to my enrollment at the Fashion Institute of Technology where I studied textile design, textile color and nature forms. My formal education sparked a profound curiosity and an intense desire to work in other mediums. I studied art and design, life drawing, fine arts illustration and clay sculpting at the Art Students League and Parsons School of Design in New York City.
When I begin a piece, whether I'm working with acrylics, oils, colored pencils or pen and ink, it's intuitive and very spontaneous. I have nothing specific in mind ... I go where my feelings take me. My hands react to the medium I use. When creating a collage composition, it's the same. I love the immediacy of being able to add and change, it's very exciting. When working with fabrics, I create sculptured forms that are embellished and hung as art deco pieces.
D'Vora Gallery of Art, Design & Photography features a unique assortment of original art. In addition to painting with acrylics and oils, Ruth produces collage compositions, lithographs, pen, brush/pen and colored pencil drawings. Her work is applicable to all areas of surface designs. Her painted photographs are of Central Park in New York City.
