Artist Statement My background in art is in photography. I studied at the University of Washington and have had many exhibitions of my work at various locations in the Seattle area.

Thirteen years ago I had the opportunity to show my photography at a gallery in Seattle. I came to know the gallery manager and we soon became good friends. His name was Dave Felker. Dave had two MFA's and was a multitalented artist. He was well known here and in Alaska and Minnesota and had exhibited in Europe, too. Dave passed away this past December.

Dave saw something in my photography that he called "painterly" and urged me to pick up a paintbrush. I did not need a lot of coaxing - I have loved art, especially abstract art, for as long I can remember.

He helped me along the way and gave me instructions but more important, encouragement. That was the beginning of my interest in painting. I am now 12 years into the process. I love creating drama on the canvas. My photography is graphic and abstract (geometric and either black and white, or with vivid color). My painting has followed similar lines. In both mediums I look to find the story behind the outward appearance, which is why abstracts have always appealed to me.

I would love to hear your comments and hope you enjoy my work.
