Description The lizards or surios (of scientific Latin Sauria, also called Lacertilia) they constitute a vast sub-order of scaled reptiles. They differ of serpents (their close relatives) due to the presence of four paws, eyelids in the eyes, and external ears. In spite of that a lot of species of lizards, lost their paws during the evolution, becoming externally similar to the serpents; also lizards exist without eyelids (of the family Gekkonidae) or without ears. With more than 5000 species known now, the lizards exixt in all the continents, except in Antrtida. They exist in several sizes, from some centimeters to 3 meters, as the dragon-of-komodo. They are usually carnivorous, feeding of insects or small mammals, but there are also lizards omnvoros or herbivores, as the iguanas. The monster-of-gila, native of the south of the USA, is the only species that is poisonous. Some lizard types are capable to regenerate parts of its body, usually the tail, but in some cases even lost paws.
