Artist Statement Born in 1962 into an unconventional, musical family that was always buzzing with creativity, I could not imagine my life otherwise than artistic. As soon as I finished the Academy of Arts, I worked as an illustrator and designer from my cosy canalsided-studio in Amsterdam. After my son was born, I started to write as well, and published a successful childrensbook. Or... was it a childrensbook? Somehow I can feel no real difference between me as a child, and me as a grown-up... It probably has to do with this timeless inner world, which is always being renewed and vividly there.
The work you see here in my gallery, is part of a new book I am working on. It's about a unicorn that enters the modern industrial world. Unicorn? Industry? Well, I like socalled 'impossible' settings. These reveal unknown meanings to me, and new playful shadows and colours. When I look around me with this double gaze, enchantment is everywhere.
