Artist Statement Three things have influenced my life’s artful journey: 1) my childhood environment, 2) nursing, and 3) teaching.

My parents were both creative: my mom designed and made custom clothing and my dad was a tool & die maker known as the ‘go to’ troubleshooter. My Dad knew of my interest in art and often shared newspaper articles about Grandma Moses, Georgia O’Keefe and Henri Matisse, the last two of which have had an influence on my work. My Mom encouraged my talent by taking me to adult drawing lessons given by a local artist. Up until 10th grade, my only exposure to art class was with watercolors, so I became well versed with the medium.

While I was a nurse, and then an editor of nursing textbooks, I developed my philosophy toward life and have since applied that to art. I have learned to embrace everyday joys and the people who reflect that. You can see this in my work - in my choice of subject, color and technique.

When I teach, I enjoy sharing what I know so that others can share in the joy and centering that I get from painting. It is particularly gratifying when I see that my students ‘got it’ and are ready to really let painting become a part of their life. By teaching, I am propelled forward on my own artistic path. I have been teaching watercolors for over twenty years and have started many programs in the Saratoga Springs region of upstate NY. I now teach at the Dunedin Arts Center and online.

When I am not in my studio with Molly, my miniature schnauzer, I am teaching or tending to my flower garden. Since we are new residents of St. Petersburg, my husband and I are occasionally out on our boat exploring Tampa Bay or the Gulf or, during the summer months, sailing on Lake Champlain, NY.
