Description ' a small community in a picturesque part of Puna is in shock, reeling from the loss of majestic monkeypod tree, its lacy leaves and 100 foot tall branches having graced this area for decades...this is conservation land ... monkeypod trees are now defined as invasive , regardless of their beauty or how many people value and enjoy them ... residents watched in horror , crying for their loss ... a big piece has been removed from a jigsaw puzzle of a tropical paradise '
Bill Hitchcock, yes Member Since February 2008 Artist Statement My art is my journal of a life lived equally in remote Hawaii, the wilderness of Oregon, and on the Mendocino Coast of California.
With an MFA in etching from the University of California Santa Barbara (1967), I have retained my love of line using vine charcoal on stretched canvas in lieu of the toxicity of the etching process.
I have no lofty designs of reinventing art but merely revel in the joy of the process. My images are private observations and not executed with any other motives. What I present is art for myself. I enjoy the thought that the images may bring pleasure to someone else. With the exception of paintings I have gifted, I still possess all of my work.
