Description Twisted walls of ice-carved granite draw a narrow stream into their mysterious depths. Details: this area in the Sawatch Range near Aspen, Colorado is known as 'the Grottos.' Even in July, huge blocks of ice can be found at the bottom of the narrow trench giving a clue as to how this slot of a canyon was formed. An overcast day was the perfect complement to this otherworldly scene.
