Description The notion of the Great American Road Trip has a certain allure. That allure is well justified, as I learned while crossing the United States twice in the span of one summer, heading to different assignments after receiving my commission as an officer in the United States Army and going on active duty. Looking back, I find it very fitting that I was required to cross our country twice so early in my career, which spanned 10 years. We've got a beautiful country full of amazing people. It's worth defending.
I took this photo from the passenger seat of a car driving through Wyoming. It had been gray all day and the rain had just started to fall, but not hard enough yet for us to put our windshield wipers on.
