Description Samurai Araki Settsu-no Kami Murashige by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861), master of ukiyo-e style of Japanese woodblock prints. This print depicts a powerful warrior, Araki Murashige, wearing ceremonial dress and an official hat and surrounded by the accoutrements of status and authority including the elegant sword-sheath and the lacquer table, but posed in a humble position with a rice cake in his mouth. The text reveals that the warrior has just accepted the cake from the knife of his master as a sign of loyalty and respect.
