Description 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' is a loose and impressionistic portrait based on my own German Shepherd dog, Bonnie as she shakes herself dry after one of our morning walks on the local beach, energetically shedding water and soaking our house from floor to ceiling, bless her. This is a variation in style for me, a break from my usual realism and detail, but if you like intense colour then here is some colour! Using watercolour and acrylic inks over a freehand pencil sketch I've chosen the most vivid palette possible. It appears that Ive used just about every colour in the book apart from her natural colouring. The splashes and runs of paint and ink successfully give the impression of vigorous movement while the blissful expression on her face says everything else. If you are a dog lover and you have a wall space that could do with brightening up, then this is the one for you.
Peter Williams, Leiston Member Since June 2010 Artist Statement Working out of my studio on the Suffolk coast, I express myself using a broad spectrum of media including graphite pencil, coloured pencil, charcoal and pastel. However I am best known and respected as a watercolourist, pushing the boundaries and achieving a unique vibrancy unequalled by many others.
My wide portfolio of subject matter includes traditional landscape, seascape, wildlife, portraiture and highly detailed illustration, even some still life.
I've been and still am influenced by many predominantly unknown contemporary artists, people who have perfected certain techniques and styles of work which are instantly recognisable as their own. I have worked hard to learn these technical skills, experimenting and developing methods a little further to produce my own style. First and foremost though, I try to portray emotions and inject a spiritual atmosphere into my work which may take the viewer to another place, far beyond that of a photograph or straight hyper-realism.
