Description The history of Akkerman Fortress began in ancient Greek times. It survived the Roman Empire, Moldavian kingdoms, Genoese domination, Ottoman Turks, and the Russian Empire. The fortress is in Odessa, one of the largest and most important seaside trading cities and tourist areas of Southern Ukraine. It is June 23,2022, and the usual wine tasters or tourists are not to be seen. The beaches and restaurants are vacant. Dark clouds envelop the medieval fortress. While a congregation of hungry gulls at Akkerman Fortress hustle to gather food from the black sea, Russian missiles strike the nearby seaport. Explosions mimic claps of thunder. Before the war, Ukraine was among the worlds major exporters of grain. The twenty million tons of Odessas trapped grain is a tragedy for many people. In the Horn of Africa, villagers trek for days across dust-blown wastelands to flee from the drought-induced famine. In cities from Syria to Central America, families go to bed hungry. In Afghanistan, starving children stream into hospitals. The grain that was bound for these people will not arrive. Stormy Skies Over Akkerman Fortress, is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecallers Florida Studio on 8/17/2022.
