Description When painting this glacier lake in the Canadian Rockies, I ran into the problem that the tree receded against the wall of the canvas and did not draw enough attention from the turquoise water. I sought to find a way to foreground the tree and make it special. Look closely and you will see that even a plain tree can stand up to a turquoise lake - while every other stroke in the painting is vertical or horizontal, this tree is made entirely of circles.
Katherine Altom, Washington, DC Member Since February 2013 Artist Statement The truly wonderful thing about art is its ability to communicate how another person sees the world. Light falls on all of our eyes in the same way, but it is for our minds to choose how to interpret the information. When a painter paints a picture, she creates a world on canvas to communicate to her audience one way of interpreting light. Many of these paintings are landscapes which I have gazed upon and chosen to believe that the colors could be more vibrant, or the trees could be taller. I invite you to here gaze upon my world.
