Description Based on a famous photograph, this painting depicts the tension and anxiety on the faces of exhausted landser somewhere in the Soviet Union during the summer of 1942. Survivors memories of the Wehrmacht summer offensive of 1942 recall endless, monotonous marches across a featureless, flat landscape, through clouds of dust in the baking heat, interspersed with periods of vicious close-quarter fighting. As the summer lengthened and the grenadiers got further from home, the burden and anxiety of constant fighting increased together with total, crushing weariness.Size: 16 x 12 in.
