Description Inspired by Vermeer's: 'The Girl with a Pearl Earring'. The original drawing evolved from research of the 28th Maori Battalion. My focus expanded from the soldiers fighting overseas, to their brave wives 'holding the fort' back home. The doyley is reminiscent of the homely crafts undertaken by many women of the WW2 era.
