Even Ansel Adams manipulated his prints in the darkroom using whatever technology and tricks necessary, which were available to him during his time, to create his photographic vision. The ABSTRACT HEAVY MACHINES series is a group of HEAVY MACHINES photographs originally captured at construction sites. I believe in what Brooks Jensen mentioned in his quotation, about using photographic technology to reach an artistic vision. With that said, I wanted to use a couple of different photographic technologies to make my "aesthetic statement": In post-processing I use lots of layer-building; and also, when I think it will make a 'cooler' artwork, I incorporate my photographs into digital painting software to create a painterly-look in my photographs. I rarely use digital painting software, and in fact, WITH FULL DISCLOSURE, out of nearly 110 Photographic Series—this one, and another one, which is called, "Penang Photos as AI Paintings", these are the only two where digital painting software is intentionally used to create my aesthetic statement. Nevertheless, not all of the photographs in this series are painterly-looking—some are 'normal images'.
