Artist Statement I did the usual art school, college route but failed to stay on at Uni. My path lead me down to working with special needs children and that's where my art remained for a long time. Never having enough time to myself, my brushes dried and my work faded like an old photo.

I loved the challenge of these children, neglecting my own needs along the way, it took a toll on my well-being. I suffered hyper-tension, high blood pressure and a wee drink problem. Fortunately, I met a wonderful Lady who dragged me from the depths before I could not escape. She emphasised the beauty, the emotions and the love I had to show in myself and through my art work. We got married, and now I have two wonderful children of our own.

I use very strong colours in my work due to the fact I am colour blind. And it reflects my moods. At first I stuck to oils because it was easier to cover mistakes, or as Bob Ross would say, have happy accidents!. I progressed onto water colour as my confidence grew, which covered a few basic landscapes and not very imaginative colours. Now I use anything to draw with, including acrylic, mixed media and sculpture.

It's been a long journey but I'm finally here. Hope you enjoy.

cheers
Richard
