Description From prehistoric times there has been a fortification on this stretch of Northumbrian coast in North East England. In Saxon times, this was the residence of the Kings of Northumbria. The Normans built a stone fortification and over the years it was extended. In the 19th Century the first Lord Armstrong restored it. today it remains on guard over the beautiful Northumbrian coastline consiting of mile upon mile of sand dunes.
