Artist Statement Michelle Arnold Paine is a contemporary painter with a unique freshness in her approach to representational painting. Her subjects - landscape, figure, and architecture -- are about the spirit of space, and how we converse with the places which are a part of our lives.

During the three years she spent living and working in Italy for an American study abroad program, she steeped herself in the Renaissance masters and the intimacy and beauty of daily Italian life. Images from the years she spent there flow in and out of her work. In addition to numerous private collections across the U.S., her work can also be found in several university and church collections.
Her education is a distinctive combination of liberal arts and fine arts. She has a B.A. from Gordon College in Art and English, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and a Master of Fine Arts from University of New Hampshire.
