David Rogers, Fresno Member Since May 2008 Artist Statement Have you ever asked a little kid what they want to be when they grow up? Chances are they’ll answer with “I want to be a fireman” or “I want to be a policeman” or I want to be a football player”? From the earliest time that I can remember I’ve always wanted to be an artist. Although my life’s journey has had many twists and turns, this is the place I’ve always come back to. I am beyond blessed to be able to make a living being able to do and share what I love best for so many years. You’ve probably heard the old saying “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” I can attest to the fact that it really is true because I live it every day.
I don’t have a long pedigree of famous art colleges I’ve attended or degrees that I’ve earned. I am truly 100% self taught. I think it has served me well in that I don’t approach a painting with any preconceived notions on the process involved. I have developed a simple, vibrant, realistic style over the years and I simply do what comes natural. I’m a very easy going and peaceful soul and I think that comes through in my paintings and has ultimately become the signature of my work.
Living in Central California provides much of the inspiration you’ll find in my paintings. San Francisco, Morro Bay, Monterey, Napa and Yosemite are all within a two hour drive of where I live so there’s never a want for subject matter.
Whether it be a portrait, landscape, seascape, or a vineyard, my goal as an artist is always the same, that my work will hopefully provide a peaceful escape for the soul of the viewer.
Thank you so much for spending time with me and my work.
