Artist Statement I started out as an illustration major with no intention on becoming a photographer. It was only about necessity to pick out the camera, mainly just to document my portfolio. Soon it only seemed natural to use composition, colors and shapes through the camera. With this new tool it became easy to find jobs various “corporate” type portrait studios. Still shooting art I went on to the Kansas City Art Institute and received my BFA. After the Art Institute and many thousands of portraits later for other companies, I decided to get my own Studio. I currently own Fine Photo in Lenexa Kansas where I shoot today.
I like the idea that art is in every aspect of our lives. Why not see things and be entertained by a variety of visual aspects? It is the hope that I have to be able to look into an image and see more than just a pretty flower, a beautiful mountain, or just a nice smile on a face. Don't get me wrong I make this stuff too. However cool looking it may be, it is still just something I call "Hotel Art". It's purpose is to fill the wall, match the drapes or enhance the carpet. Sometimes it's just more fun to think a little harder.
