Artist Statement Meet the artist . . . Kathryn Molineux

I began my career as a professional artist while still in college in the Sixties, exhibiting in galleries in and around San Francisco. About that time a friend introduced me to needlepoint, and although there wasn't much in the way of materials available then, I began to experiment by adapting some elements of my paintings into needlepoint, just for myself and a few friends. By the mid-Seventies, I was designing and selling to a few shops in California, grew bit by bit, and then in the Eighties rapidly expanded into stores nationwide.

Along with all the design and production that goes into maintaining a large line of canvasses sold nationwide, I also do custom work and have worked on some elaborate and massive projects such as room-sized rugs, church kneelers, and complete wing chairs and suites of dining room chairs. I frequently lecture on color theory and use, often in conjunction with "trunk shows" held at our retailers around the country.

I continue to paint as a fine artist, working in water-based media and oil, and occasionally in dyed and painted silk. These pages present that work for your consideration as an addition to your home.

My other commercial work has included murals, graphic and logo design, illustration, surface design for packaging, and wall surface treatments. Private commissions have included portraiture, and an extensive body of nature and wildlife paintings. Much of my commercial work incorporates the surreal and trompe l'oeil effects that characterize my paintings.
