Description Colorized photo from 1920, April 24Original Title: Overalls Circus ParadePhotographer: Bain NewsLocation: 787 8th Ave, NYI have to admit, other than cartoons, I never saw the circus come to town. The fun of seeing large animals walk by you. The sheer size of the animal, the smells, it must have been fun. And while it always seems like the circus parade was an old fashioned thing to see, they only recently stopped doing it. Everyone thinks that the reason they do it is, to advertise the show. But in reality its how they transport the circus from the train yard, to the fair grounds. But in recent years the circus lost favorability due to how treated the animals. In more recent years, the circus would ask the city to keep it quiet, so they can move the circus without a lot of commotion. But people still found out and ran out to see it in the early hours of the morning. When the elephants were banned from circus use, it destroyed the circus. People wanted to see them more than anything, and the circus was damaged beyond repair. Only a few years after the ban, Barnum and Bailey took the biggest hit. They lasted almost a 150 years! But were gone by 2017 because of that ban. This particular group are from the Overalls Circus. I couldn't find any info about them. If they were related to Barnum in some way, or they were some rogue smaller circus.
