Description The first of my Jamestown Discovery Series depicts the Jamestown landing on the early morning of May 14th, 1607. This painting shows the ships and explorers landing, and setting up a cross to claim the land for England's King James and Christ. The ships the Discovery, the Godspeed, the Susan Constant along with a small boat called the shallop are all shown in the painting. The Shallop is tied to a tree where the channel was closer to land because of a drought at the 1607-1608 time period. On their hunting grounds, the Indian is shown scouting the new arrivals-- the English, to discover if they were friends or foes. Jamestowns founding is the birth of our country in the United States. Its moment in time was a blessing for all of us who enjoy our freedoms now, here. Their commitment to explore and settle was a struggle for their life and death, they were convinced that God was with them. The Cape Henry claim for Christ and King James a week earlier, (with 3 days of fasting and prayer for success) Jamestown was the place again where they would stop and perform a ceremony of prayer and reflection and praise to Christ. The main focus of their mission was to settle the land, finding people in the land, they were to lead them to Christ and baptise them. The hope of King James was more than just claim land for England, he was hoping to envangelize the Gentile world through the grace of God and his explorers/missionaries. Jamestown was the beginning of a Heaven on earth, we know the end of the story, we live the American dream 400 years later. The illumination of this moment is the one I experienced on Jamestown Island in July 2006 when I saw the sun shining on my shoulders while looking out on the cross in the center of the island to the setting sun on the water with my family. Artist Statement Dale D. Glasgow was interested in art from the early age of 3. “my passion has always been to be an artist every day of my life” says Glasgow. Experience in working at National Geographic magazine, USA Today, NASA and many Fortune 500 companies has developed his skill for artistic detail. He decided to combine an interest in history with a longtime interest in creating fine arts pieces that would satisfy both his creative interests and his practical need to support a family.

Glasgow is the internationally known artist who painted the “Bird’s Eye View of Fredericksburg,” which shows every single building in the city of Fredericksburg, VA, all painted with painstakingly accurate detail. His art style, precision and authenticity of history embody a timeless art. Dale’s work can be found in numerous books & publications and venues including National Geographic Historical Atlas and National Geographic magazine, Webster's Dictionary and the Smithsonian Museum.

Dale and his wife, Sharon of over 25 years, have five daughters. Heather Young, 24, is married and works as an artist and writer. Jennifer, 22, is an artist in California. At home are Hannah 18, Rachael 16, and Ellie 11. Then there are the animals-- sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, cats and a border collie named Sparky to keep everyone in line. Their farm is located in Hartwood, Virginia and Dale’s studio is next door.
