Description The dramatic basalt cliffs at Esha Ness on the remote western edge are subjected to unrelenting battering by the sea. Many caves, arches, stacks and blowholes can be found here. There is also an abundance of wildlife, including swooping fulmars and whistling oystercatchers. Next to the colourful green algae on the rocky plateaum you can see a seal pup. As I stood here on the edge of the cliff, I waved to the seal pup. I saw it clap its paws together in response. When I stopped, it also stopped. Then I waved again - and it clapped again. Communing with nature! What incredibly good eyesight they must have!
Mark Harrison, UK Member Since February 2007 Artist Statement I enjoy photographing landscapes and wildlife while travelling. Here you can find some of my favourite photos from New Zealand, Iceland, the Dolomites of Italy, Cornwall and the Orkney and Shetland Islands far in the north of Scotland. I love the beauty of nature and hope that you will enjoy these uplifting photos as much as I enjoyed being there!
