Artist Statement

The way I see the world around me is a reflection of the beauty that naturally occurs and inspires me. While I am passionate about the natural beauty of things, I am even more passionate about the journey and discovery to find the beauty that is off the beaten path or not as apparent to the casual viewer. It is in the journey that I seek out fleeting moments and unique perceptions.

Over the years I have explored accessible and not so accessible location to reveal landscapes on a grand and diminutive scale all in an effort to bring awareness of not only the natural beauty but also the frailness of the world around us. I feel that the ability to singularly on what I find intensifies the stand out beauty I present through the photographs I make.

My photographic efforts frequently take place in the wild and rural places of the Rocky Mountains and western United States. I find inspiration in both the quiet rural road and the lonely wilderness trail. Yet, I am most captivated by an addictive mix of solitude and solace that comes from my interactions within nature. My portfolios feature favorite moments and meditations from these places.

I have been blessed to have not only the ability to explore the world around me, but also the support of my wonderful family who have either sent me off on my solitary quests or joined me in the discovery and communion with God’s greatest creations. In saying that I would say that the photographs I present are just another way for me to praise the God that gave me purpose and life. I also dedicate the works to friends and my awesome family.

I think as I post each image in my galleries I present the moods I feel when I am in the moment of creating a photograph. Simply the aesthetics of my work are created largely by my choices at the time of exposure, rather than by software. I also work with only with available natural light. I rely solely on digital SLR cameras and telephoto lenses—tools that allow for expressive and responsive thinking within the fleeting moments I photograph.

"The creative power of God inspires awe. I'm filled with reverent wonder as I contemplate it. To think that he spoke and worlds came into being! In contrast to God, I work with raw materials that he created. My creativity is derived from his. I put the wrapping paper and ribbon on his packages. I praise you, Lord, for your incredible imagination
