Description Right before the Christmas of 2011, I painted this. I had originally intended for the cross behind the manger to be hidden in the background. I wanted it to be an afterthought of the painting, but I just couldnt get the image to look right. I went with a much simpler design instead and cast dramatic shadows to emphasize the nails on the cross. Jesus is the reason for the season. The greatest gift ever given. He came to sacrifice himself for each and all of us and did so upon the cross. Jesus no longer sleeps in a modified manger, and He is certainly not still nailed to the cross. He arose from the grave and reigns today! Hardly an afterthought. I might have compromised the design of the background detail, but it is no coincidence that the painting conveys the importance of the empty manger and cross.Original Painting is acrylic on 24 X 48 stretched canvas.
