Description This painting is a self portrait. Seriously! I have a degree and a 15 year career as a biochemical engineer in the pharmaceutical industry. Most of our family time was spent in the bar that my grandparents owned and lived above when I was growing up, and many of my paintings now are of wine and spirits. Each of these flasks and beakers and test tubes, and even the mortar and pestle, are placed in a way that reminds me of different events in my life. They say it's important to pour your memories and emotions into your work, and so that's what I did. I summoned up the happiest of memories and emotions from my chemical engineering days for this piece! And yes that really is the atomic model for the ethanol molecule - two carbons, six hydrogens and an oxygen.... C2O5OH is how I learned it in the 70's. Now they call it C2H6O. Chemistry has grown and changed so much since I learned it. The periodic table has doubled in size!
