Description Every Knee Shall Bow was inspired by the stain glass windows inside of a North Carolina church. I was visiting some relatives for a three day family reunion. It is a tradition that on the third day which is a Sunday, the entire family worships together. During this time light was pouring through the majestic purple stained glass with gleams of golden sunlight flowing into the sanctuary. The colors and the imagery of the worshipers with their hands outstretched towards the ceiling motivated me to sketch the figures for this piece. The figures are actually one large collage piece. I then superimposed the collage on top of the background. The collage figures are a mixture of brown pencil and Indian black ink while the background was painted with watercolor paint.
