Artist Statement Richard Burrows spent his childhood in Connecticut. He is a perpetual student, studying art at the School of Visual Arts, the Pittsburgh Art Institute and NYU. After concentrating on graphic design, photography became his passion. During the late 70’s, he fell into the New York City rock scene and hung out at Max’s Kansas City and CBGB’s, where later on he was able to document his life along with the lives of his friends who made music he met during those days. He gained experience photographing architecture, ballet and his own conceptual pieces. He has photographed rock icons including Dee Dee Ramone, Fred Schneider of the B-52’s, Boy George and Lady Miss Keir of Dee-Lite, members of Blondie and Andy Warhol’s factory. He has also photographed some theatre and screen actors such as Sam Shepard and Pauley Perrette. His work has been published internationally, in the New York Times, New York Magazine, most recently has had several images published in Ginger Coyote's “The Best of Punk Globe” and in various other periodicals and publications. He is currently working on a series of social issues, street photography, portrait photography while continuing to photograph low light, minimalist, abstract and conceptual photography.
