Artist Statement Clara 'Susan' Beym likes to interpret the beauty of nature in bright colors, bold brush strokes and is very influenced by Impressionism. Susan has shown her work at local libraries and the Ocean County Court House and local galleries in Island Heights, Stockton, and West Windsor, NJ. She is an active member of Ocean County Artist Guild, West Windsor Arts Council, Artists of Bristol and Garden State Water Color Society. While preferring to paint in watercolor, Susan enjoys occasionally painting in oil, and is also pursuing pastel painting. Photography has always been a favorite passion and helps to keep her inspired. In her spare time, you will find her exploring the lovely coastal wetlands on foot and bicycle in the beautiful areas of Bayville with a camera in hand, or painting plein air on the beach. Susan also designs jewelry which she sells at local craft shows.

Susan is employed as a an award winning graphic designer in Princeton, NJ. She was exposed to art as a young child, while watching and being instructed by her German Grandfather’s painting. Susan has been painting watercolors since Catholic grammar school, where the nuns thought it was an excellent discipline to paint one watercolor every week. Susan continued to pursue art and design in High School and College. After graduating from College with an Advertising Design Degree, where she also studied textile art and painting, she has continued to paint in both watercolor and oils. Susan paints mostly landscapes of coastal areas and natural areas that surround her homes in Hamilton Twp NJ and Bayville’s coastal area of the Barnegat Bay.
