Artist Statement What style am I? I'd have to say "Outsider" Art. From the time I was a child, I felt compelled to create. From poems written on scraps of paper, to Barbie furniture made from my Dad's scrap 2 x 4s, to paintings on the back of envelopes being mailed to out of town friends, I have always had a project going. I am entirely self taught, learning from experience and those around me. I think I've come far from where I started, but I always want to learn and do more. In contrast to my "day" jobs as mother and teacher, I find painting and creating unique jewelry to be an emotional and visceral experience, rather than cerebral. I am very tactile, and when I create any kind of art it is as if my hands and eyes connect straight to my heart without always stopping for thought. While this does make for a lot of starting over, and a certain amount of frustration, I find this right brained approach is relaxing and generally provides better results than when I think too much about how? or why? or what is the right way? I hope to have more to display soon. In the meantime, I welcome your feedback.
