Artist Statement Art has been a serious interest of mine since childhood. When I was twelve, my teacher was so impressed with an art project that she called the local paper to give me recognition. This resulted in a photo of me and the art on the front page. That same year I began teaching myself to oil paint from books. I placed first in a poster contest at fifteen. That was a good start to the study of graphic design that I pursued later at the Columbus College of Art & Design. I graduated with a BFA.

My current paintings are very eclectic. At this time I refuse to be locked into one style or subject matter. I am always experimenting with new ideas and products. This approach prevents creative blocks and keeps my work fresh. I paint for the love of it. Doing something creative is essential to my peace of mind.

You will find some aspect of the natural world in all my work, whether it is the texture of a rock or the organic pattern of marbled paper. I have experienced very dark periods in my life. Nature has never failed to soothe and heal me. I have a strong kinship with animals. I believe they have emotions like the rest of us. Over the years I have volunteered for causes dear to my heart, such as conservation and humane treatment.

I work in several media and some of my textured paintings are difficult to reproduce in print. Imagekind does an amazing job with these.
