Description Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments that bound with medium of drying oil especially in early modern Europe, linseed oil. Often an oil, such as linseed was boiled with a resin such as pine resin or even frankincense, these were called 'varnishes' and were prized for their body and gloss. Other oils occasionally used include poppyseed oil, walnut oil, and safflower oil. These oils give various properties to the oil paint, such as less yellowing or different drying times. Certain differences are also visible in the sheen of the paints depending on the oil. Painters often use different oils in the same painting depending on specific pigments and effects desired. The paints themselves also develop a particular feel depending on the media.

Artist Statement Primarily self-taught, Teng Wei started in photography in 2002, and has been working professionally since 2003. He is based in Kuala Lumpur and much of his imagery comes from the rural areas of Malaysia which has been widely exhibited. He has done work for travel magazines but currently is working in black and white fine art photography primarily in black and white.

Currently the Hon. Asst. Secretary of the Photographic Society of Malaysia and his experience abroad has earned him numerous assignments for Asian Geographic magazine since 2002. He has travel to countries like Inner Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Langka, Vietnam, Cambodia, China and many places in Malaysia to photograph exquisite imagery of these countries.

Apart from his photojournalism assignments, he has also undertaken large format landscape and commercial photography assignments. This has led to many join exhibitions with other photographers in Malaysia and abroad. After joining The Photographic Society of Malaysia in 2004, he was immediately appointed as International Salon Liason Officer by FIAP (Federation Internationale de' lArt Photographique), then in 2005, he was appointed by the Embassy of Spain as the Curator of the project, “Spain through the eyes of a Malaysian Photographer”.
