Description 'Installing Idols' is the fourth in my 'church art' series. This acrylic painting on canvas paper is very much a study in opposites. It contrasts the grittiness of the background wash against the perceived slickness of industrial chrome, the primitivism of the idols against the modern tools, and the translucence of those glass statues against the solidity of the heart. Likewise, in Ezekiel 14:3, God comments on the duality he sees (and is disgusted by) in his followers: 'Son of Man, these people have installed idols in their hearts. They have embraced the wickedness that will ruin them. Why should I even bother with their prayers?'
