Artist Statement Anthony is a member of NAPA, the National Acrylic Painters Association and a Member of the Institute for Learning. He teaches for Wigan Council in the adult and community sector as well as delivering his own classes in the Wigan area and he also gives workshops and demonsrations to art groups and societies around South Manchester and North Lancashire.

Anthony is predominantly a figurative painter with a prolific output, which often overflows into the disciplines of landscape, still life and abstract painting. Chiefly commissioned based his vast experience and natural talent for capturing the underlying character of his sitters have led to numerous projects, he has exhibited throughout the UK and has work in private collections across Europe and the USA.

In late 2008 he was 1st prizewinner of the landscape/urban category at the SAA Artist of the Year Competition in Waterperry, Oxfordshire.In 2009 he was the 1st prizewinner of the figurative artists and also in 2010 he won the Still Life category of the Artist of the Year award of the SAA.

More recently he won second prize for the most outstanding artwork at the 2010 Stockport Open Art Exhbition and the Judges Choice Award at the Astley Biennial.

Influences include Gerhard Richter, Lucian Freud, Eric Fischl, the Impressionists and the Italian Renaissance artists as well as many other contemporary artists and his philosophy revolves around the following statement: -

“The context within which we experience an event will determine how that event is encoded and retained”

Residencies and Events.

2009 Marks and Spencer’s commission an acrylic painting of the new front of store area inside the Grand Arcade celebrating their 127year anniversary. The painting will be auctioned of to raise money for Derian House.

2009 Friends of Mesnes Park Wigan commissioned to paint a view of the park including the pavilion for display in the renovated café.

2008 Tote Sport commissioned me to produce eight portraits of celebrities using horsehair taken from the 2006 Grand National winner Numbersixvalverde. The finished paintings where exhibited at Aintree over the three days of the Grand National event they will then be auctioned of to raise money for the Alder Hey Childrens Hospital Imagine Appeal.
