Artist Statement Hello, my name is Marilyn. I Live in Ontario with my husband and my two children. I was born in Lima, Peru, but have been living in Canada since the age of twelve. I'm a professional photographer who graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a double Major in Visual Arts and French Language and Literature. My father gave me my first camera when I was fourteen and since then photography has been one of my passions in life. I also love to paint with acrylics and oils, I love to draw with charcoals and pastels and I love playing the piano. I like to dance ballet, compose music, sing, travel and read. I am a very spiritual person who's inspired by nature, flowers, children and faith. 'We live in a world, where there is so much suffering, tragedy and discord, therefore I try to find refuge in the beautiful things that life does offer and that are just within our reach, if we could just open our hearts to it.' When I photograph, I enter a state that brings me much peace, joy and hope. In my daily struggle with Depression for the past five years, I find that photography has helped me somewhat. I feel very drawn to the tranquility of nature, the overwhelming beauty of flowers, the innocence and pure hearts of children and the teachings of the Bible. When I photograph, the entire world becomes silent to me, and suddenly the darkness turns into light. I am truly inspired to produce art that reflects my inner thoughts and my deepest feelings. I wish happiness for all mankind, salvation for every soul, and I hope for world unity and peace.
