Artist Statement

I was born in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, 31 years ago. As a child my father was an avid amateur photographer; and I naturally tried to imitate him. My first camera was an ancient box camera from the 1930's; and I took it everywhere with me, going through roll after roll of film. When my father gave up photography due to failing eyesight, I too drifted from it. I learnt to paint, and also spent a lot of time drawing with charcoal; but all these distractions came to an end when I became and adult and let the demands of a career consume my time.

For five years I created no art, working my time away until I was nearly burnt out. Depressed with the daily grind, I once again turned to art to seek fulfilment; and photography was what I once again found.

Two year later, with my first child on the way, I am once again happy; capturing the beauty I see around me, with a camera always by my side.
