Description Here is another infamous woman, Lilith. To the orthodox, she is a Demoness, to Wiccans she is a feminist icon. The original Lilith of ancient Kabbalistic legend was THE first woman, the wife of Adam before Eve. Unlike Eve however, Lilith was, literally, Adam's equal half, Adam having been created half-male, half female, then split into two (Sefer Zohar).Lilith refused to submit to the male authority of Adam (or God for that matter) and left the Garden of Eden to live her own life. This image of Lilith is based on an ancient Babylonian scupture from the British Museum, called 'The Queen of the Night' who is also refered to as 'Lilith'.The nation of Babylon is now known as Iraq. The original painting is gouache, 2007.
