Artist Statement The expression of art has always been consistent in Annalise Kucan's life. She has experimented in many artistic avenues but found her niche in painting and metalwork through obtaining her Bachelor of Art Degree. All though she concentrates in work on canvas, she also paints murals and specializes in art restoration and commissioned works. As a fine artist, Annalise paints representations of the issues she feels most strongly about, the people and things that interest her the most, and the cultures that stir her emotions. She obtains her inspiration through subjects that have personal significance, or those that provoke her curiosity. The artist has always been interested in old photographs and long forgotten lives of the past. Cultural variations are very intriguing to her as well. Annalise has studied archaeology, forensics, and other forms of anthropology, which constantly make their way into her work. She strives to show a certain emotion and realism in her paintings. Therefore after seeing her pieces, she hopes for the viewer to gain an appreciation toward the history of those cultures. "I desire that the observer grasps an equal understanding of the subjects and customs that I exemplify. Furthermore, I wish for the public to feel a connection with the individuals portrayed, and a sense of familiarity and strong emotional presence when viewing my work. Capturing that spiritual, yet natural human emotion is my main focus, as well as providing an enjoyable and memorable viewing experience."
