Description Lucy-the-elephant was built in 1891. It was a house built in the shape of a circus elephant, It is sixty five feet high, sixty feet long and eighteen feet wide. It took the builder, James V. Lafferty, seventeen years to build. Lucy served many purposes, first as a novelty house, a hotel, a restaurant, business office, cottage and finally a tavern which was closed by Prohibition. After falling into disrepair and threatened to be demolished, money was raised in the 1970's to refurbish her.Lucy stands tall today, she missed the damaging effects of Hurricane Sandy in 2012.This original 8x10 image of her was taken one clear evening in the 1990's
Jerry Berger, Cherry Hill, NJ Member Since March 2013 Artist Statement Photography has always been my passion. I started taking pictures when I was about six years old with an Agfa Bellows Camera that my uncle brought home from World War Two. It didn't take long for me to increase my collection of camera's. Relatives bought them for me for birthdays etc. By the time I was in my teen's, I owned my first 35mm single lens Miranda F. In my twenties, I bought my first Nikon and since then have stuck with the Nikon Brand. I became a Professional Photographer in 1995, but something was still lacking. I decided to go through my vast library of images that I have accumulated for many years and sell the images of the many places that I have visited and photographed And here we are today!
