Yet they invariably seem so alone, even when arranged in groups, staring at something we can't fathom. And if we look too closely there are cracks and chips and patches that mirror our own flaws - and require us to step back if we want to preserve the fantasy of perfection. This particular mannequin is in a store window in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, late at night.
