Description She became a seamstress from whom I inherited a tattered needlewok that has this saying on it; 'Lagom fagnad mattligt krus gifves uti detta hus'. Southern Swedish can be more difficult to translate than the predominant Northern Swedish, and I translate this as meaning; 'Moderation gives moderately unto this house'.Remember, she was only thirteen when she took on a new country, and language is difficult for anyone in circumstances like that. So it is possible my translation is a bit off and I've used this motto on many of my creations. The irisis she left behind still flourish in my garden and are also a favorite subject of mine. This project began with the words in on linen my Grandma so adeptly sewed, then became henna on cold-press watercolor paper and evolved into new-media digitally enhanced prints. Just like her irises, this adapts well in any environment and has a stand-out yet subtle color that enhances any environment. If you'd like to have this printed on other objects available here, just contact me at jilljj.com to arrange customization.
