“As a pragmatic instructor I love the process of education through discovery. I consider the greatest joy in life to be my fascination of both art and technology as I am continually encouraged to share my awareness through instruction and the development of similar understanding and passion in others.”

Bio (from KCAI website): Alex Hamil serves as a Continuing Education instructor and (now former) admissions coordinator at KCAI for incoming freshmen (KCAI) for 3+ years. His classes include Portfolio Preparation, Life Drawing, Animation and Design all particular to high school students desiring to enter into a 4-year BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) program. After receiving his own BFA from KU (’92) he has been both a commercial and freelance artist, taught K-8 computers at the time receiving his Master’s in Education (’04) while developing his thesis for improving media literacy standards in the classroom.

Educator/Curriculum Developer: Over the last decade I’ve developed classes suited toward applying my understanding of technology, art and curriculum development a variety of situations, starting in a parochial environment and now at Kansas City Art Institute in their continuing education program.

Commercial Artist: After completing my BFA from KU (Lawrence, KS) in 1992, I went into the field of commercial art (from 1993 to 1998) focusing on graphic design for television, print and promotions. For five years my positions and responsibilities ranged from assistant to eventually art director. Based on my interest in education, this technical and career knowledge along with my passion for being in the classroom (another five years) went well as a technology curriculum and development instructor; my personal course of study which resulted in a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) from Rockhurst in May of 2004 along with a thesis in Media Literacy which I incorporated as an ‘elective’ unit for four consecutive semesters for 7th and 8th graders.
